Because in the last number of ProSokker we spoked about strikers training, we thought that it would be interesting to find out the opinions of other managers from different communities. So, we started to ask questions to managers from outside.
Our study was made up of 10 questions:
1. Why did you decide to train strikers and for how much time do you intend to do it?
2. List some advantages of this kind of training.
3. List disadvantages - if you see any.
4. How much should be the seasonal budget for having an efficient strikers training?
5. Explain a little your plan, your training strategy (you train a skill for a season or you alternate few skills, how many strikers do you consider is optimal to train etc).
6. What are your criteria in selecting juniors for training strikers?
7. When do you prefer to sell the trained strikers: when they are up to 23 years and fully trained or just after training some skills?
8. How much time do you need for training a striker (in seasons)?
9. What kind of coaches do you need for a proper training?
10. In the end, add your personal tips for the ones who want to train strikers, some advice for them.
And look what we managed to collect from managers that had time and that were nice to answer us. We thank with this occasion to all that helped us with their answers and wish them good luck in sokker!
1. Ussualy managers decided to train strikers because they are not satisfied by the number of goals their teams score per match. Others use a tactic with fewer midfielders because of the fact that they are more expensive than the players from defence or attack.
Tom Grey from Calvaria FC said: “My tactic is 5-2-3. Midffielders cost much and i don't have many of them. In this system I must train attackers and defenders, sometimes buy older midfielders Now I train shooting for my 6 attackers. They have nice skills of speed and technique - shooting is needed. I will train shooting in this and half of next season. The possibly I will train speed or check on defending for defenders.”
2. The main advantage of training strikers is that you will score more goals from fewer occasions. If you don’t have good attackers you often won’t be able to win matches even though you play with weak teams. Tom Grey’ philosophy from Calvaria FC is that in this game you should score more than your rival.
3. Here are some interesting opinions from different managers: Morsey from the team Morse United said: ”The only disadvantage is that there aren't many strikers in a team, meaning that players from another compartiments will lose their training when strikers are trained. I am hoping to continue the schedule until each striker pops to at least solid in Pace. Most my players, strikers especially, are U21 and I am hoping to train them up. Most the players I buy are for training up and are bought for between 1£-1000£.”
Andrea5150 from Heart of Ciavra answered as well about the disadvanteges of training strikers. He said: “A lot! Forwards are forever injured... forever!!! You can train only 6 players and this players must be very powerful in three skills”
4. Tom Grey from Calvaria FC considers that a team that trains attackers doesn’t need much money for coaches. The main coach must be divine at the skill that is trained. The assistants are an option, but are not absolutely neccesary. Money is needed for buyng talented players for training. The best option is to buy players that are 16, 17 years old.
5. Here is Tom Grey from Calvaria FC answer: ” If You train strikers then you need 6 man in team on this position. 3 play in league and 3 in friendlies. Every one about 90 minutes a week. I use season training system - one skill a season, but sometimes a big rotation is needed. Half season trainingg atacking, half pace (every training).”
Morsey from Morse United explains us his plan: “My plan is to hopefully train my strikers up to solid at least, in pace, passing, and stamina. Most my strikers already have excellent stamina though. The plan is to make them play good and be able to do this throughout a whole game, hopefully producing goals.“
Andrea 5150 (team Heart of Ciavran): “So... I train peace during first 3/4/5 cup match week for improove all the team, and the rest of the season I train 60&% tec and 40% scoring, without any order!”
Most of managers who train strikers, besides attacking skill, train the secondary skills needed for strikers to be more effective like: technique and pace.
6. The managers who answered to us ussualy choose very young players 16,17 years old with good striker, technique and pace skills.
7. At this question the answers are based on 2 different opinions from managers: some of them train the strikers in order to sell them and others train them for their team. For example Morsey from Morse United said: “I like to make profit in my team. I normally buy players for less than 1000£ and train them up. I have bought a few excellent strikers U21 for less than 1000£.”
On the other hand ,Tom Grey from Calvaria FC said: “I'm not seller - I train for my team. My friend trains for money - the best ages to sell are between 16-23 years old. In individual situation try waiting - if big skill is on the way”.
8. At this question the answers vary very much. Some say 1 or 2 season and others up to 10 seasons (like Andrea5150).
9. Most of the managers that we asked think that for a proper training of the strikers the coach must be at least unearthly at the skill that is be trained. The assistants are an option if you have enough money to spend.
10. We will present some tips from different managers:
Morsey from Morse United: “My advice for those training strikers is to set up a plan on how long to train a certain skill and use 3 strikers in a game and swap the strikers so they all train equally.”
Andrea5150 from Heart of Ciavran: “First rule: don't get angry if a striker misses a goal from 2 cm and without a keeper between the goal post, because a good striker will be forever decisive!”
Tom Grey from Calvaria FC: ”You must use you brain to make a tactic with 3 attackers - it's not simple! Check my tactic - 5-2-3 it's better i think!”
